Arizona is bordered by California and Nevada on the west, Utah to the north, New Mexico to the east, and Mexico to the south.

Arizona is the sixth largest state in size, and has a population of 5,130,632, ranking it as the 20th most populous state. The derivation of the name "Arizona" was probably either from an ancient Aztec word "arizuma" meaning "silver bearing", or from the Spanish words "arida zona" meaning "arid zone". Arizona was the 48th state admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912. and the last state in the contiguous United States admitted. Arizona still has a large presence in the high tech industry including computers, software, electronics component manufacturing, and aerospace manufacturing.

Arizona is known for its dry arid environment. The northern part of the State also has the largest stand of Ponderosa pine trees in the Unitied States, and is also home to mountaneous areas. The upper third of the state is a plateau area with an appreciably cooler climate than the southern desert areas. Arizona also contains part of the Grand Canyon.

Arizona has several taxes including state income tax, sales tax, and property tax.
